Reay, Highland

Reay is a village which has grown around Sandside Bay on the north coast of the Highland council area of Scotland. It is within the historic Parish of Reay and the historic county of Caithness. The village is on the A836 road some 12 miles west of the town of Thurso and 3 miles west of Dounreay.

Reay, Highland in John Bartholomew's "Gazetteer of the British Isles" (1887)

Reay, vil., Caithness, and par. partly also in Sutherland - par., 115,301 ac., pop. 2191; vil., near Sandside Bay, 10½ miles W. of Thurso; P.O., T.O.; gives the title of baron to the family of Mackay, from whom a large section of Sutherland took the name of "Lord Reay's Country".
