Leuchars, Fife

Leuchars is a small town near the north-east coast of Fife in Scotland. The town is nearly 2 miles to the north of the village of Guardbridge, which lies on the north bank of the River Eden where it widens to the Edenmouth estuary before joining the North Sea at St Andrews Bay. Leuchars is 7+⁄2 miles north-east of Cupar and 6 miles north-west from the university town of St Andrews. The city of Dundee is 7 miles to the north, across the rail and road bridges that span the Firth of Tay.

Leuchars, par. and vil. with ry. sta. (Leuchars Old Station), Fife - par., 13,354 ac., pop. 2185; vil., 5½ miles NW. of St Andrews, pop. 588; P.O., T.O.; the old castle of Leuchars, on Castle Knowe, a little N. of the vil., has disappeared; of the church (12th century), the apse and chancel are Norman, the aisle being modern.
