Houston is the fourth most populous city in the United States of America, and the most populous city in the state of Texas. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, the city had a population of 2.1 million people within a land area of 599.6 square miles . Houston is the seat of Harris County and the economic center of Houston–The Woodlands-Sugar Land, the fifth-largest metropolitan area in the U.S. with over 6 million people.

Houston.-- vil., Houston and Killellan par., Renfrewshire, on Houston Burn, 6 miles NW. of Paisley, pop. 553; P.O.; has 2 ry. stations (Houston, on the Caledonian Ry., 3¼ miles E., and Houston or Crosslee, on the Glasgow and South-Western Ry., 1¾ mile SE.); in the vicinity, 2 miles NE. of Bridge of Weir sta., is Houston House, seat. The ruins of the old castle of the Houstons were used to build the present village in 1780.
