Pollokshields, Glasgow City

Pollokshields is a district in the Southside of Glasgow, Scotland. It is a conservation area which was developed in Victorian times according to a plan promoted by the original landowners, the Stirling-Maxwells of Pollok, whose association with the area goes as far back as 1270.

Pollokshields, police burgh and quoad sacra par. with ry. sta., Govan par., Renfrewshire, in SW. suburbs of Glasgow - quoad sacra par., pop. 6523; police burgh, pop. 2104. Pollokshields was made a police burgh in 1876, and is almost entirely occupied by detached villa residences.
