West Rainton is a village and civil parish in County Durham, England. It is situated between Durham and Houghton-le-Spring. Leamside is about 1 kilometre to the west. The village straddles a ridge parallel to the A690 with extensive views to the west. At the 2001 census it had a population of 2,255.
