Lydiate, Sefton

Lydiate is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside, England but historically in Lancashire. Since 2010, when Knowsley Village officially became Prescot, the village has the only remaining official village in Merseyside. It is located to the north of Maghull, with which it has a common history. Also the northern part of it, at Greens Lane, falls into west Lancashire so it has split boundaries.

Lydiate, township and vil. with ry. sta., Halsall par., N. Lancashire, 9 m. S. of Southport, 1995 ac., pop. 1071; Lydiate Abbey, in the course of erection at the time of the Reformation, was left in an incomplete state, and is now an ivy-clad ruin.
