Hipswell, North Yorkshire

Hipswell is a village and civil parish in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England. It acts in many ways as a suburb of Catterick Garrison, into which it merges. It is the birthplace of noted English theologian John Wycliffe, leader of the Lollard Movement. Hipswell parish is formed by the villages of Hipswell with Colburn and Scotton. Hipswell is served by the church of St. John the Evangelist, Hipswell Road, Hipswell.

Hipswell, township, Catterick par., North-Riding Yorkshire, on Rysdale Beck, 2 miles SE. of Richmond, 2647 ac., pop. 269; is said to be the birthplace of John Wicliff (1324-1387); contains the seat of H. Lodge.
