Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire

Llandeilo is a town in Carmarthenshire, Wales, situated at the crossing of the River Towy by the A483 on a 19th century stone bridge. Its population is 1,731. It is adjacent to the westernmost point of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The town is served by Llandeilo railway station on the Heart of Wales Line.

Llandilo.-- market town with ry. sta., Llandilofawr par., in E. of Carmarthenshire, on river Towy, 15 miles NE. of Carmarthen and 215 miles NW. of London by rail, pop. 1533; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Market-day, Saturday. Llandilo occupies a picturesque situation on the precipitous side of a hill rising from the N. bank of the river. The principal trade of the town is in corn and flour; the other industries include woollen cloth mills, timber and saw mills, and tanneries. A fine bridge stretches across the Towy; it was built in 1848 at a cost of £22,000.
