Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent

Tredegar is a town situated on the Sirhowy River in the county borough of Blaenau Gwent, in south-east Wales. Located within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire, it became an early centre of the Industrial Revolution in South Wales. The historic Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, Virginia, United States was named in honour of the town.

Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent in John Bartholomew's "Gazetteer of the British Isles" (1887)

Tredegar, market and mining town, partly in Llangunider par., Brecknockshire, but chiefly in Bedwelty par., Monmouthshire, on river Sirhowy, 7½ miles E. of Merthyr Tydfil by rail, 7029 ac., pop. 18,771; 1 Bank, 1 newspaper. Market-day, Saturday. Tredegar has valuable mines of coal and ironstone, with extensive blast furnaces and steel works. Now a large and prosperous town, not many years ago it was an insignificant village.
