Brampton Bryan, Herefordshire

Brampton Bryan is a small village and civil parish situated in north Herefordshire, England close to the Shropshire and Welsh borders. Brampton Bryan lies mid-way between Leintwardine and Knighton on the A4113 road. The village has had a complex history and its buildings reflect this. Much of Brampton Bryan is owned by the Harley Estate who have controlled the area since the early fourteenth century. They succeeded the powerful Mortimer family.

Brampton Bryan, Herefordshire in John Bartholomew's "Gazetteer of the British Isles" (1887)

Brampton Bryan, township and vil., N. Herefordshire, on river Teme, 10 miles SW. of Ludlow, 2926 ac., pop. 275; P.O. The church contains the monument of Edward Harley, Earl of Oxford (d. 1741), collector of the Harleian Library. There are extensive remains of the castle, which was twice besieged and finally reduced to ruins during the civil war.
