It forms a single urban area with Rushden to the south and has an estimated population of 7,145. The town centre contains many historic buildings around the Market Square and College Street.

Higham Ferrers.-- market town and par. with ry. sta., in co. and 15 miles NE. of Northampton, 2260 ac., pop. 1468; P.O., T.O. Market-day, Saturday; derives its name from its ancient lords, the family of Ferrers. Bootmaking and the mfr. of bobbin lace are its industries. Higham Ferrers was a parl. bor. until 1832.
