Milborne Port, Somerset

Milborne Port is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, east of Sherborne, and in the South Somerset district. It has a population of 2,735. The parish includes the hamlets of Milborne Wick, Kingsbury Regis and Stowell. The village is surrounded by green fields and countryside on the banks of the River Gascoigne (also known as the River Ivel or River Yeo). The village has a primary school, which occupies the site of the former infant school.

Milborne Port, town and par. with ry. sta., Somerset, near SE. border of co., 3½ miles NE. of Sherborne sta. and 8¼ miles NE. of Yeovil Junction, 3277 ac., pop. 1877; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; has mfrs. of gloves, leather, and shoes. Milborne Port was a place of some consequence in Saxon times, and sent representatives to Parliament from the time of Charles I. till 1832.
