Long Melford, Suffolk

Long Melford (or Melford, as it is known locally) is a large village and civil parish in the county of Suffolk, England. It is on Suffolk's border with Essex, which is marked by the River Stour, approximately 16 miles from Colchester and 14 miles from Bury St. Edmunds. The parish also includes the hamlets of Bridge Street and Cuckoo Tye.

Long Melford, small town and par. with ry. sta., Suffolk, 3 miles NW. of Sudbury, 5185 ac., pop. 3293; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; has a large cattle fair, an iron foundry, and mfrs. of horse hair and cocoanut fibre. Melford Hall and Melford Place are ancient mansions.
