Hampstead, commonly known as Hampstead Village, is an affluent area of London, England, 4 miles north-west of Charing Cross. Part of the London Borough of Camden in Inner London, it is known for its intellectual, liberal, artistic, musical and literary associations and for Hampstead Heath, a large, hilly expanse of parkland. It has some of the most expensive housing in the London area.

Hampstead, Camden in John Bartholomew's "Gazetteer of the British Isles" (1887)

Hampstead, parl. bor. and par., Middlesex, in NW. of London, 2248 ac., pop. 45,452. Hampstead Heath is here, and one of the old inns (now a private residence) was the meeting-place of the Kit-Cat Club, of which Addison, Steel, Marlborough, and Walpole were members. The locality is otherwise famed in literary history, and the graveyard contains some interesting monuments. Hampstead returns 1 member to Parliament; it was made a parl. bor. in 1885.
