Marks Gate, Barking & Dagenham

Marks Gate is a place at the northern tip of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham in East London, England. It is located immediately north of Chadwell Heath and to the west of Collier Row. The name originally referred to an entrance or gate into Hainault Forest at the northern end of the current Whalebone Lane North. The name was derived from the proximity of the gate to the manor of 'Marks' which in turn was named from the 14th century de Merk family.
